Save the Date: Summer Picnic
/By Kay Twomey, Event Chair, burleithevents@gmail.com
Welcome summer with a picnic in the park on Saturday, June 17, with non-stop fun from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. Packed with sun, warmth, and effortless fun, this annual Burleith tradition is just what you need to ease into the hottest season of the year. Relax with family and friends. Make new friends with cool people (aka your neighbors)! Celebrate the excitement of summer, vibe to smooth new sounds, eat, drink, and more! As always, the event will be held at the Whitehaven Park Green Lot at Whitehaven and 37th Street.
Here's what we have planned for you!
Fresh New Music—Barry Gurley Trio. From DC’s Blues Alley to NYC’s The Blue Note to the Monterey Jazz Festival and Le Bilboquet in Paris, Gurley makes his way to Burleith with an eclectic style and repertoire that will seduce our ears. Washingtonian Magazine named Gurley “Best Pianist-Vocalist” in DC.
Top Dog Contest—A favorite competition with Burleith’s smartest and most beautiful pooches vying for Best in Show.
Kid Stuff—Petting zoo, face painting, fire truck, police cars, and GERMS ambulance providing endless fun.
Eat + Drink—Feast on Rocklands (DC’s best BBQ!) and other tasty treats. Gulp and stay refreshed with beverages from Town Hall.
Raffle—Enter to win great prizes donated by local merchants.
Sponsored by the Burleith Citizens Association with generous support from Georgetown University, Town Hall, Lenore Rubino/REALTOR, Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company, Dry Bar, Hop, Cask & Barrel, Unleashed by Petco, Unum, Sprinkles, Glover Park-Burleith farmers market and Community Foodworks, Yates Field House, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, and the Burleith Community Fund. We encourage you to patronize our supporters as a way of saying thanks.
