WIS + Neighbors = Clean

volunteers pose for the traditional clean-up shot before heading out.

A robust group of volunteers of all ages showed up on Saturday morning, November 2, for the Burleith semi-annual neighborhood clean-up event to collect litter and bulk waste in the streets and alleys. We were able to pick up a couch, a couple of mattresses, a cooler, several pieces of broken outdoor furniture, rugs, a TV, overflowing trash, as well as lots and lots of candy wrappers.

We were lucky to have students from Washington International School (WIS) with their parents pitching in to clean up the areas around Ellington Field and WIS. As always, special thanks to the Burleith Citizens Association, Georgetown University (GU) Office of Neighborhood Life, and GU Facilities for providing support and collection during the clean up.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made the Green Lot, Tot Lot, Whitehaven near the Circulator stop, and the areas around Duke Ellington and WIS cleaner! Let’s keep it going by picking up litter and trash throughout the year and by contacting  311 to request any bulk trash pick ups needed.
