BSIG News

Members of “Booked Solid” at their May 2024 meeting.

Our neighborhood Burleith Special Interest Groups (BSIGs) are open to all BCA members.

The Book Club is one of the oldest—dating back to 2009. Although it has been closed to new members for a few years, Christine Arnold, an R Street resident, fortunately and generously volunteered to coordinate a second book club in Burleith, called Booked Solid. They have been meeting monthly for the last five months. At 12 members presently, it is also closed to new members, so we are looking for a coordinator for a third Burleith book club.

Members of the Dining Club.

The Dining Club had its kickoff meeting in March 2012—over 10 years ago—and has been going strong ever since. Meetings typically are the first Friday of the month. Each meeting has a volunteer host who decides what the event will be: a potluck with the host providing the main dish; an event with a variety of substantial appetizers; an outing to a restaurant arranged by the host where everyone pays their own way; or sometimes a progressive dinner. Most take place inside or outside the host’s home or at a restaurant of the host’s choosing.

In other BSIG news, the Burleith History BSIG is ready to restart in the fall under the leadership of Dwane Starlin. Dwane is a previous co-leader, well-known historian, and tour leader as well as co-author of the 2017 Burleith (Images of America) book. We are looking for a leader or coordinators for previously active BSIGs including the Garden Club (although it’s possible we may have a volunteer leader) and the Hiking Group.

If you’d like to be notified about upcoming activities for any of these groups or would like to find out more about leading/coordinating a third Book Club or Hiking or Garden Club BSIG, please email Linda Brooks at membership@burleith.org. Please also share ideas if you’d like to form another interest group.

And finally, if you are not already a BCA member, go to www.burleith.org/join-the-bca and indicate your BSIG interest. The price of membership is just $25/year ($15 for Seniors).
